Additional dates announced for the band’s upcoming trip to Australia.

After an outstanding 2012 tour performing at Harvest festival – plus sold out sideshows – The War on Drugs return to Australia this summer as part of Falls Festival!

The War On Drugs’ sophomore effort Slave Ambient was hailed as one of the albums of 2011, and served to put this Philadelphia based indie rock outfit on radars all over the world. Beginning as something of a collective, the band was formed in 2005 by Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile. Since Vile’s amicable departure in 2008 – Granduciel and co have settled into a lineup capable of producing some of the most intoxicating guitar hazes this side of Highway 61 Revisited. After selling out some of the most talked about shows of 2012, The War On Drugs return to our shores with reputation and skills to burn.

Tickets available now!

hey all, been a while…in fact, its been ‘never’ cuz this is the first time i’ve ever logged into or posted to this website but i’ll start posting more news, pictures, recording tips/myths and of course pictures of my dog, as the summer goes on.
Anyway, i’ve been working on the new drugs record since around last September, and demos actually began in April and May of last year. So far Dave has played a fretless bass on 2 songs and Robbie made an Arp Solina sound like the wind. So far we’ve tracked stuff all over the place–my home studio, my main engineer Jeff Zeigler’s Uniform Studios in philly, Water Music in Hoboken (Sandy hit them pretty hard and they’ve done an incredible job of rebuilding and moving forward stronger than before), Mitch Easter’s Fidelitorium in Kernersville, NC (although Mitch wasn’t involved in the sessions and i was in the shower when he stopped by to drop off a 12 string Hagstrom), Miner St. studios in philly, my most favorite spot, Echo Mountain in Asheville, NC…and most recently, last night in brooklyn at ‘the bunker,’ where my friends Jon Natchez and Kelly Pratt played some beautiful horns on a bunch of songs. They’re currently in town rehearsing for their summer tour with David Byrne and St. Vincent (uhhh…super sick) so why not get the best.

here are some of the song titles:

Under the Pressure
Red eyes
An Ocean in Between the Waves
Eyes to the Wind
Without You
In Reverse
Lost in a Dream

plus a few more…

Not gonna make any promises on release dates/year or touring right now but it’ll all fall into place soon enough, when the time is right, and it’ll be fuckin’ awesome.

Sad to announce that due to personal reasons our Philadelphia show with The Walkmen has been cancelled.

You may receive a full refund at your point of purchase. For online purchases via Ticketmaster you will be automatically refunded within 1-2 business days. Should you have any problems you may contact Ticketmaster customer service at 1-800-745-3000.

Performed “Come to the City” on the Late Show w/ David Letterman Wednesday.

Look for Robbie high-fiving Paul Shaffer. Plus, Charlie Hall plays keys and Jon Natchez & Kelly Pratt back in brass.

In a double dose of Philadelphia-ness on last night’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Fishtown’s own The War On Drugs made their television debut, playing “Baby Missiles” from last year’s excellent Slave Ambient, with an assist from ?uestlove of The Roots playing second drummer to TWOD’s Steven Urgo.

the problem is you’re playing a Taylor haha….meaning known for too much bright end….pick up a jumbo….go gibson j-series or a lerger martin, you’ll get the SOUND of your life. And believe it or not…little hint, figured this out playing around with some of the guns n roses guitar players a few years ago out in LA….D’ADARRIO STRINGS….I know it sounds nuts….they’ll take some of that natural painful ping right out of those guitars with the lighter wood. try a set of 12’s with heavy bottoms or something.

I’m sympathetic to their current circumstances and being left on their uppers by the cancellation of the Hold Steady tour and the exposure it would have brought them is no joke in anyone’s language. At the same time, I’m wholly glad they’re here tonight, because what their opening set, a frantic 30 minutes or so, packed from floor to ceiling with moments of startling rapture and abandoned mayhem, is as good as anything I’ve seen all year.

Wagonwheel Blues is now available! You can buy it from the secretly canadian website or at your local record store (!!!) or a bunch of places online like Amazon…I also saw a few on ebay. Do it!

‘Taking the Farm’ was the song of the day today on and they actually tried to
dissect some meaning from it! Niiiice!

Anyway here are some recent reviews to persuade you to head downtown and ask for it.

We played a few parties in Austin for sxsw–duo style with granduciel and vile rippin it on guitars and now we’re super psyched to jam it for our philly friends. The drugs are super loose right now…in a tight kinda way…so make sure to cruise out.

Full length album, Wagonwheel Blues, will be out in June on Secretly Canadian. Got to meet the whole crew down in, these guys (and one gal) have got THE SPIRIT! Some sweet tracks from the record will be on myspace soon enough…
